For this task we researched trailers that were similar to our pitch so that we could get an idea of how to film it.
Insidious is a trailer similar to our pitch as it is about a child who gets possessed by a spirit. In our trailer we have a boy who mentally disturbed because of the death of his father and the fact that he was there and saw it. The Insidious trailer helped us to decide how we are going to film our trailer with the use of pace, shots angles etc. It also helped us with further ideas for example the use of a professional to come and look at the child as well as a good use of music and sound effects.
However we changed our idea because it was too much of a cliche; we wanted to do something different which is why we decided to do the sub-genre of Voodoo as nobody has done this before.

The Omen trailer was similar to our old pitch before we decided to change our idea, this is because the young boy becomes possessed through spirit, this is similar to our old pitch for the trailer because we were going to have a possessed young boy that has something wrong with him, after he was in a car accident with his mum that ran his dad over and killed him. The omen trailer helped us to decide that the idea was too cliché as a supernatural genre, although we still kept with the idea of possession through the power of the voodoo doll and the killing of people.
Stardust is similar to our new pitch as it involved a witch using a voodoo doll to kill someone. It has elements of Voodoo and black magic in it, it also contains a controller and voodoo doll. This is shown within the trailer when the woman drowns and breaks the bones of a man. We have also used these elements within our trailer when the villain uses her voodoo doll to kill different people, she kills all of her victims in different ways, one way she kills someone is by hanging them, she also drowns someone in water, and she also kills her last victim by breaking their bones, she does this in the voodoo doll by twisting its arms and legs. We chose to use this genre because it was different and not a traditionally seen horror movie.
This scene in chucky helped us pitch our new trailer idea because it shows chucky as someone who is thought to have a life before he is taken over as chucky however in their before life they were a good citizen, this is shown within our trailer because our villain is in a car accident and everyone involved thinks she is dead, however the devil doesn't let her die, this then becomes a problem for everyone around her, this is when she starts to use the voodoo doll, and kill everyone around her. This is similar to the chucky scene because chucky starts to take over his 'owner' and kill him, because he feels like he has power, just like our villain likes to take over her victims through the power of the voodoo doll.
why we chose to have a trailer based on voodoo
The reason as to why we chose to change our trailer from a trailer about possession to a trailer about Voodoo is because we wanted to break all typical trailer conventions or supernatural or thriller genres, because we chose to use a unfamiliar genre we had to make sure that we did it right from the very beginning.
