Why is casting important?
Casting is important because you need to make sure you have the right person playing the right role. Casting is also important because if you don't have the right person playing the right role then it could affect how your film is, it could make it look unprofessional, and could make the experience director look inexperienced.
what kind of actor should be cast for what kind of role?
Someone that looks sweet and innocent should play the role of a victim, this is because it will make the audience have sympathy for this character, as they could be vulnerable. However you cant have someone that looks sweet and innocent play the role of a killer this is because it wouldn't create a tense and eery atmosphere.
On the other hand if you want someone to play a killer, stereotypically you would have a male that is stronger and more over powering. You wouldn't usually have a female that plays a killer because women are usually the weaker gender and less powerful because men can intimidate them.
However some women can play powerful roles as long as they look right. For example if you had a woman who was pale and powerful looking then she would be able to play a vampire.

Our casting choices...
We used Elle for our main victim of the trailer as her blonde hair and gentle facial structure gives he the 'cuteness' advantage and would make the audience sympathise for her and sort of root for her to survive. These qualities make her a likeable character making her perfect for her role. We also thought she looked similar to Drew Barrymore in Scary Movie who plays the victim. People could make the connection themselves and think they look similar and would therefore see her as a victim.
Callum was another victim we included as we didn't want to give the idea that it was only females that were being killed by the Voodoo. His 'boyish' look and ethnicity give him the advantage of looking vulnerable and innocent. We thought Callum looked similar to Dev Patel who plays an innocent boy in Slumdog Millionaire and he plays a typical school boy in the TV series Skins. We thought people may make this connection themselved and see him as a victim and as innocent.
Fran was another victim we decided to include and was part of the 'random killings' which then lead to Elle's attempts of murdering as she discovered Sarah. We decided to use Fran as a victim as she is a girly character and makes her a typical victim as the audience would sympathise for her. We thought Fran looked similar to Kiera Knightley who is a well-known TV sweetheart and people may sympathise for characters that look like her.
We used Sarah as our killer and villain in our trailer as she has a more sinister look about her. Her darker hair gives her amore evil look. To enhance the idea of her being evil we used dark lighting and other visual effects as well as making sure she wears girls, pretty clothing but dark and serious clothes instead. We thought Sarah looked similar to Charlize Theron who plays the evil queen in Snow White and the Huntsman.
